Cheap flights UK - Travel safety tips
We want to help our visitors make the most of their holidays, and one important thing to consider
when in a foreign environment is safety. Have a read through our carefully compiled travel advice,
bear it in mind, and then sit back, relax, and enjoy!
- If possible, orientate yourself during the daytime. Remember some landmarks that you will be able to use to find your way back to your hotel or hostel after a night out on the town.
- Most hotels and some hostels and campsites will let you deposit your passport and some other valuables in the safe at reception. This is a good idea as it means one less thing to worry about.
- If you are taking valuables to the beach, make sure that someone is always minding them whilst the rest of you swim or fetch ice creams - it may seem boring but beaches are pick pocketing hotspots - beware!
- Use bags that fasten properly.
- Invest in a mini-padlock - many hostels have cages or lockers that you can lock your stuff in, but you usually have to provide your own lock.
- Don't carry anything onto the plane for a stranger.
- Acquaint yourself with the country's laws. Getting arrested for jay walking or driving in the wrong lane would really be a downer on holiday.
- Remember to organise travel insurance before you go, and take the documents with you.
- Talk to people for recommendations of places to eat and stay. Reading the travel guides is a good place to start but you can't beat the advice of your fellow travellers and the region's locals.
- If you are any kind of fussy eater you will need to find a food vocabulary sheet to help you pick your way through the foreign menus. If you are a vegetarian work out what 'meat' is, and likewise if you are allergic to something work out how to express this!
- If you are travelling to a remote area where emergency medical assistance may be hard to come by, invest in your own first aid kit. These can be bought from high-street chemists and outdoor centres and contain bandages, syringes, and antiseptic wipes.
