Things to see and do
• The fountains - one of the most famous things about Vegas are the fountains that erupt outside the casinos from nightfall to midnight. In particular, check out the fountains in front of the Mirage and the Bellagio.
• Shopping - visit the shops attached to Caesar's palace casino, which host performances as well as twenty four hour shopping opportunities.
• Roller coasters - The MGM Grand, Circus Circus and New York New York casinos all feature roller coaster rides and more. So if you love your fairgrounds then mark these on the map.
• Helicopter rides - riding above the lit strip at night is quite a sight, and you can find out from tourist offices in Las Vegas about this treat, or ask at your hotel.
• Rent a limo - yes, you can travel round Vegas in style at a reasonable price. You'll find limos easy to pick up on the street, and willing to take you a short distance up the strip.
Getting there
You'll fly into Las Vegas McCarran airport which is only five miles from the centre of town. You can get the usual selection of taxis, car hire, buses and limos from the airport to your hotel.
Location and weather
Las Vegas is in the state of Nevada, in the South West of the USA. Nevada is divided into Territories, and Las Vegas has its own territory. The state has a desert climate and gets very hot so do look up the forecast for the month you're visiting in. The sunniest times tent to be early (June) and late (Sept) summer.
Top tip
Hotel room prices are most expensive on Friday and Saturday nights, and whenever a big event is happening in town. Most casinos have a hotel attached, so you'll be staying in the same building you're playing in. Its best to have a browse on the internet before going to find out which casino you like the sound of, and how much it'll cost. |
