Food
Canada’s cuisine is hearty rather than haute (it’s very cold in the winter). The cosmopolitanism of the bigger cities means you can sample all manner of different dishes there; fresh salmon abounds on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts; Quebec’s French influences mean that it’s a bit more gourmet than the rest of the country – having said that, the Quebecois are the inventors of ‘poutine’, a fast food fusion of chips, cheese curds and gravy – and of course, you can’t move in Canada for maple syrup.
Climate
The second biggest country in the world naturally has a range of climates but can roughly be divided into two. The Arctic north is…well, Artic; the more densely populated southern half of the country is much more temperate. You’ll find it hard to escape the snow anywhere in the winter, but southern summers are warm and pleasant.

The cost of flights to Canada varies considerably depending on where and when you’re flying. Returns to Toronto, Montreal and other eastern destinations can be snapped up for £350 for any time of year and shouldn’t ever cost more than £600. Vancouver, Calgary, Banff and other places in the west will cost more because a) they’re further away and b) they’re big winter sports destinations – the price range is more like £500-£700.
