Phuket is one of the most popular destinations in Thailand offering a wide range of activities for all the family. Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and has a hilly, jungle covered landscape and lush, luxurious coastlines with white sands and clear blue sea.
Things to do and see:
- Island Hopping – You can hire speed boats or take an organised cruise to visit the many islands as little as 40 minutes away from Phuket. The Islands offer great diving spots and patches of beach and many offer exclusive accommodation for a special night away.
- Spas and Massages - Thai’s favour massage as part of an ancient tradition of natural healing and meditation. Most hotels offer traditional Thai massages, or for a more authentic experience you can visit one of the many temples where the original art of massage is still practised at a small cost.
- Laem Phoromthep - Arguably the most visited spot on Phuket which boasts stunning views as far as Phi Phi Island on a clear day. The spot is worth visiting and packs in crowds daily to watch spectacular sunsets.
- Elephant Trekking - Elephants are part of Thailand’s culture and history and there is now opportunities to ride these beautiful beasts around the tropical jungle that makes up Phuket’s landscape.
Getting there: Phuket airport is located in the North of the Island and as a result, it might take a while to reach your hotel. Limousine taxi’s can be booked from the airport and cost around 650 Baht, there are also airport minibuses which leave the airport when full, these cost around 180 Baht per person.
Location and weather: Phuket is located on the West coast of Southern Thailand within the Andaman Sea. The Climate of Phuket can be classed as Tropical monsoon, the wettest period is between September and October, this is also the hottest time. As Phuket is hot all year round, the best time to visit is between November and March when there is less humidity and cool breezes to keep things bearable.
Top tip: Put on some comfortable footwear, buy an empty suitcase and head down to Phuket town to do some serious shopping. Don’t forget to barter for prices however and never accept a first offer.
