Cheap UK flights to Australia - attractions

British tourists flock to Australia for many reasons: the perception of it being the UK plus sun and barbecues does have some basis in reality, but it’s a long way from being the whole story. Language and culture won’t present any major surprises to anyone from the motherland, but landscape and lifestyle are more markedly different. There are so many things to see and do; Sydney Opera House, The Great Barrier Reef and Uluru (Ayer’s Rock) are some of the most famous sights; while no antipodean trip could be complete without an expedition into the bush or rainforest, and a go at surfing or scuba diving – the onus is on finding a reason not to go. Food In the major cities, you can get anything you want: English might be Australia’s first language, but that doesn’t mean they’ve been the only people to emigrate there. In more rural areas, you might find your choices narrowing slightly, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be Crocodile Dundee-ing it on grubs and vegemite. Well, not every day anyway.

Climate Australia is mild or hot for most of the year, without much of a winter except in the far south. The northern half of the country, including Cairns and Darwin, has a tropical climate and should be thought of in terms of (very) wet and dry seasons rather than winter and summer.

Currency The Australian Dollar (AUD)

Flights £500 is cheap for a return flight to Australia from the UK, but if you book for low season (British summer time) you might be able to get a bargain. The main international airports are Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane, but with Australia being the size it is there’s a good internal air network – Cairns, Darwin, Adelaide and even Ayer’s Rock can all be reached on domestic flights. Make sure you have the right visa as well – there are different durations of tourist visa, and if you want to fly to Australia to work you need to apply for a working visa well in advance.
