Dubai is a blend of the old and new and perfect for travellers who want to experience the culture and tradition of the Middle East without losing too many home comforts. Things to do and see:
- The Creek – The Creek is a natural inlet in the centre of the city which is a historical focal point of the city. Enjoy a stroll along the creek and take in some of natural Dubai or take a tour along the creek by boat.
- Mosque – Take in some of the tradition, culture and history of Dubai by visiting one of its beautiful mosques. Try The Jumeriah Mosque or The Grand Mosque for two of the largest and most stunning.
- Bird Watching – Take advantage of Dubai’s tidal wetland to spot some of the most beautiful birds around. Flamingos, herons, ducks and other shorebirds can all be spotted early in the morning in the centre of the city.
- The Wild Wadi Amusement Park – Set in 12 acres this amusement park boasts 24 death defying water rides. It is a great day out for all of the family though not one for the faint hearted.
Getting there: Dubai International Airport is located around 4km from the city centre, there is a local bus service which connects the two and taxis available from the arrivals terminal.
Location and weather: Dubai has a sub-tropical climate with warm weather all year. Average temperatures in August are between 29 and 41 degrees centigrade. The cooler winter months are often the best time to visit.
Top tip: Dubai is without doubt a shoppers paradise take a stroll along the streets at night to experience the traditional market experience.
