Abu Dhabi is the capital of and largest state within the United Arab Emirates. The country is sleek and modern and is a cosmopolitan city filled with luxury. There are lovely parks, wonderful walkways and excellent and efficient roads meaning that you can enjoy a wonderful relaxing and care free holiday.
Things to do and see:
- Dhow Warf and Fish Market – Take a trip down to the shore and experience the traditional fish market and boat docking station. There are superb views of the city to be had from here.
- Day trip to Fujairah – About 2-3 hours drive from Abu Dhabi, Fujairah is a great place to go snorkelling and diving. The waters here are filled with wonderful creatures to view and enjoy including cuttlefish and sea turtles.
- Camel Trek – Enjoy a trip on this traditional animal during the day or for a more romantic setting at dusk. You can ask your guide to make the camel gallop too and race through the desert.
- Shopping – Visit the Souk, a street mall full of vendors selling their wares or for a more conventional experience visit the Marina Mall which boasts a cinema on the top floor.
Getting there: Abu Dhabi International Airport is located around 30 minutes from the city centre. There are taxi’s located at the arrivals terminal which will transport you to your destination and the airport is also serviced by an air conditioned bus service which takes around 40 minutes.
Location and weather: The climate in Abu Dhabi is sub tropical with blue skies and warm temperatures all year around. Between June and September the weather is hot and dry with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius.
Top tip: Visit the area of Abu Dhabi called Breakwater to learn about the heritage of this city.
