Manchester is often known as England’s second city after London as it is just as busy and bustling. At the turn of the last century, Manchester was at the heart of the industrial revolution, nowadays it is still a fundamental business centre for the UK. Manchester is a multi-cultural city of the highest order and a lot of fun can be had there.

Things to do and see:
-Historical sites – The First stop in Manchester would be the Visitors Centre located in The Town Hall in St Peter’s Square. The Town Hall is a majestic gothic looking building which was built in 1876, tours of the Hall are given by guides at 2pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Hall is worth looking around and hosts many paintings by the pre-Raphaelite artist Ford Maddox.
- Urbis – The Urbis Museum is a unique experience which is devoted to the exploration of cities. The Museum focuses on Manchester, Los Angles, Singapore, Paris, Sao Paolo and Tokyo. The tour of the museum begins with a glide in a glass elevator before taking you through the themes of change, order, arrival and exploration.
- Granada Studios – The Granada Studio tour is a 90 minute adventure which takes you on a tour of the sets of known and loved TV shows such as Coronation Street and Sherlock Holmes.
-Shopping – Manchester is full of great places to shop, with a huge choice ranging from exclusive boutiques and big designer names to one off shops selling only hand crafted items. Head to the Arndale Centre and the Barton Arcade.

Getting there: Manchester Airport is located 10 miles south of the city. The airport is easily accessible via bus, coach or taxi. Local buses connecting the airport with the city leave the airport every 10 minutes or so and the journey takes less than 30 minutes.

Location and weather: Manchester is located in the North West of England. Like much of the UK, the weather in Manchester is largely unpredictable however; it normally has cold, wet winters and warm summers.

Top tip: Try a pint of Boddingtons cream ale, the ale has been brewed in Manchester since 1778 and is often toasted as the pride of the city.
