Antalya is a city in the South of Turkey and lies on a bay which is 39 metres long. The city is great for those after a beach holiday but also has a lot of history and culture as well as much animal and plant life meaning there is also a lot to explore.
Things to do and see:
- Termessos – Termessos is one of the most historical cities in Antalya and has much to offer those wanting to learn more about the history of Turkey. Sights include the Termessos Theatre, The Odean of Termessos and The Lion Grave of Termessos.
- Dove Island – Located just west of Antalya, Dove Island is a great place to learn more about the water life around Turkey and is a great spot for divers.
- Waterfalls – There are some wonderful waterfalls to be found around the area of Antalya and these include Duden, Kursunlu and Manavgat.
Getting there: Antalya International Airport is around 6 miles east of the city centre and there is a shuttle than departs regularly from the airport to the city centre. There are also taxis available from the arrivals gate.
Location and weather: Average summer temperatures in Antalya are around 33˚C, and there is little rainfall in the summer months. Tourists looking for sun should visit between May and September.
Top tip: Take time to try some of the wonderful olives grown in Antalya itself.
