Cheap flights to Malaga

Although Malaga itself is not as stunning as Barcelona or Madrid, it’s a great place to fly to if you want to visit the popular Costa del Sol resorts.

Things to see and do: - Museo Picasso - Picasso was actually born in Malaga and there is a museum to commemorate his work near the Cathedral in the centre of town. - The Aviary - in the botanical gardens near the airport you'll find Spain's largest collection of exotic birds. - The Costa del Sol resorts - The Costa del Sol is quite overcrowded but still fun, and extreme beach chaos can be avoided by steering clear of the ridiculously swarming Torremelinos and heading for the prettier Marbella. - Gibraltar - Both a town and a rock, not to mention being one of the few remaining British colonies, Gibraltar lies on the southernmost tip of Spain, near the port of Algeciras. It's a good stopover point if you're heading down to Morocco, and a fascinating day trip even if you're not.

Getting there: Malaga airport is one of the busiest in Spain and you'll find that there are frequent flights available to buy online. An electric train that travels from the airport to the city is the quickest connection option but there are also buses, taxis and car hire aplenty.

Location and weather: The Costa del Sol is in Andalucia on the southernmost tip of Spain so the weather is very hot in midsummer: holidaymakers should remember to stay out of the heat at lunch time.

Top tip: If you have a car, why not take a day trip to the beautiful El Chorro Gorge: about an hour's drive north of Malaga. This beautiful gash in the rock features stunningly clear water and a picturesque walk which you can either head down alone or take a guided tour.
