Ibiza has long been hailed as the party island of England because of its mad and world-famous club scene. The island is trendy, awesome and tiring - but there is another side to it: Ibiza has plenty of quieter beaches for people who want to enjoy the gorgeous scenery and get some good relaxing done too!
Things to see and do:
- Nightclubs - Ibiza's clubs are world famous and are full of top DJs from all over the globe. Most of the clubs shut in the winter months, which gives the locals a well-earned rest. Ibiza Town, the capital, contains the majority of the bars but there's also a large resort called San Antonio de Portmany which contains quite a few venues.
- Beaches - The Ibizan beaches are mostly very pretty and there are plenty of little coves where you can hide away if you don't fancy the most popular areas. - Gay clubbing - Ibiza has a thriving gay scene. You can use local posters and listings for gay nights and there is a gay club for men in Ibiza Town called Anfora.
- The small island of Formentera lies just eleven miles north of Ibiza and makes for a good day trip or an alternative place to stay if you become too tired of the party paradise Ibiza.
Getting there:
You can get direct flights to Ibiza from most major European airports; these depart regularly and are cheap to purchase online. The airport is only six kilometres south of Ibiza town and is only a few minutes on the bus.
Location and weather:
Ibiza is part of a group of islands called the Balearics off the east coast of Spain. As Ibiza is an island it can fall victim to strong winds and the odd thunderstorm, but throughout the summer months the weather is mainly clear and hot. The currents off the coast are very strong so be careful swimming and particularly when participating in offshore water sports.
Top tip:
If you are up for a full-on party night then you can travel from one club to another on the disco bus.
