Lisbon is the capital of and the largest city in Portugal. Lisbon is a metropolitan city and is great for those looking for a weekend away to soak up the culture and history of Portugal. Lisbon has something to offer for all and is wonderful medieval city filled with things to do and see. It is the perfect place for a break for two.
Things to do and see:
- Olivas Docks – Take a stroll around the docks and learn about the navel history of Portugal and the way in which Lisbon played a role.
- Ericeira – Ericeira is a small fishing village to the north of Lisbon, it is a great place to visit for the day or to stay for a few nights. You will be stuck by the hospitality of the villagers and must try the seafood in the local restaurants.
- Lisbon by Night – There are a number of tours which will escort you around the city of Lisbon during the evening. It is an excellent night and is a wonderful way to see the city in a new light. The tours usually include dinner and drinks.
- Alfama – One of Lisbon’s most traditional districts, you cannot miss the opportunity to stroll around the narrow streets, and take a trip to the Castelo de Sao George. Filled with shops hidden in alleyways and back street cafes Alfama is a great place to explore.
Getting there: There are a variety of public transport methods to reach the city from the airport including a bus, an aero bus and an airport shuttle. There are also taxis available from the arrivals gate.
Location and weather: One of the warmest European cities, Lisbon have maximum summer temperatures in the summer of over 30 ˚C. There are as little as 100 days with rain a year in Lisbon and temperatures rarely drop below 5 ˚C
