Faro is in Southern Portugal and it is the capital of the Algarve region. Faro is a great place for sun worshippers with excellent weather most of the year and first-rate beaches. There is also a brilliant night scene and many daytime activities making it a great venue for all the family.
Things to do and see:
- Ria Formosa Lagoon – A nature reserve which covers over 170 kilometres. It is a hive of natural activity and is home to many exotic birds.
- Faro Cathedral - Look past the plain whitewashed exterior of the cathedral and venture inside to view a mix of marble statues, paintings and wooden carvings. There is also an excellent view of Faro from the Cathedral.
- Navel Museum - Located at the Boat Basin, this is a great place to visit for those interested in learning more about the history of Faro.
- Shops – There are many great shops in Faro from one-off boutiques selling expensive designer goods to shops on the sea front selling the same array of goods at low, low prices.
Getting there: Faro Airport is small but incredibly busy and is located near to the city centre. There are limited bus services but many taxis available to get you to your destination.
Location and weather: Faro has a wonderful climate, with summer temperatures reaching 40 ˚C and winter temperatures never dropping below zero.
