Shannon is a region in the west of Ireland which is dominated by its coastline and have remarkable views of the Atlantic Ocean. The region is picturesque and there is much magic in store for nature lovers.
Things to do and see:
- Beaches – A trip to this region of Ireland would not be complete without a visit to some of the magnificent beaches on offer. Try White Strand of Mountshannon which are two of the best.
- Cruise – Why not hire a mini cruiser to tour the lakes of Shannon. With a little tuition, you will be able to captain your own boat and explore the waters for yourself.
- Mountains – In the ancient kingdom known as Ely O, you will find the majestic Slieve Bloom mountains. The mountains are home to 3 villages who openly accept visitors. This is a great place to go to see traditional Ireland.
- Parks and Forests – Dromore Wood and Visitors centre is home to flora and fauna and is a wonderful place to visit to experience nature and the great outdoors.
Getting there: Shannon International Airport is located in the heart of Shannon itself and the average price for a taxi into the town centre is around €7. The airport is also serviced by a frequent and reliable bus service.
Location and weather: The Shannon Region is located in the West of Ireland and has a temperate climate. Winters are cold but temperatures rarely fall below zero and summers are cool.
Top tip: Whilst staying in Shannon, take the opportunity to Island hop and take in more of the country of Ireland.
