Galway is the capital of the West of Ireland and is the self proclaimed ‘Gateway to Western Ireland’. It is a picturesque seaside town which is perfect for an outdoor adventure with beautiful landscapes open for exploration. The city centre also has great shopping facilities and a variety of restaurants and cafés.
Things to do and see:
- Connemara National Park – This national park is set in 2,000 hectares and has beautiful mountains over which to roam. There are also bogs, heaths and a great expanse of grassland to discover and enjoy.
- Water Sports – With the Atlantic Ocean at its feet, Galway is a perfect spot for water sports and activities of all varieties. Whilst there, why not try Swimming, rowing, fishing, canoeing and even surfing if you can catch a wave.
- Dartford Horse Museum – The museum is a comprehensive look at the history of horses and is has on show horses of many different breeds. Horse riding is very popular in Galway and there are also many opportunities to hire ponies and horses for riding and trekking.
Getting there: Galway airport is around 6km away from the city. There are taxi’s and buses available from the arrivals terminal.
