Cork is in South West Ireland and is rich in wildlife and culture. The coastline is at the feet of the Atlantic Ocean and is littered with secret coves, rocky headlines and golden sands. Cork is a beautiful and scenic destination.
Things to do and see:
- Old Midleton Distillery – A tribute to Jameson the renowned Irish whiskey, tours are taken around the distillery daily. Visitors can sample the whiskey, learn about its history and see how it is made. There is also an option to become a qualified Irish whiskey taster complete with certificate.
- The Mizen Head Visitors Centre – This is the site of the famous suspension bridge, you can climb the 99 steps and experience the ‘Mizen View’. The view is said to be one of the most spectacular in Ireland.
- Nature – Head down The Fota Wildlife Park featuring rare and endangered species. Alternatively, try Mill Street Country Park, home to 500 acres of park land featuring birds, wildlife, native deer, picnic areas, streams, lakes and Moor land.
Getting there: Cork Airport is less than 10 minutes away from the city centre and there is a regular bus service connecting the two. Taxi’s are also available and cost between €10-12.
Location and weather: Cork is located in the South West of Ireland and is quite cold and damp. The warmest days are in May and June when Cork receives the most daylight.
Top tip: Go for a stroll around The University of Cork College, it is open to the public and the River Lee flows through it. |
