The Netherlands clearly isn’t a classic holiday destination of the sea, sun and sand variety but it has more than enough to offer in the way of sightseeing, history and atmosphere. Food
While you can get pretty much anything you want in Holland, there are a few Dutch classics you might want to look out for if you’re planning to go native. The country is renowned for its cheeses, and eating chips (with mayonnaise) is also something of a national pastime. Other indigenous delights include Frikandel (horse offal sausage), pea soup and vla – a custard-type pudding. If Northern European stodge doesn’t do it for you though, never fear – there’s a significant Indonesian population in Holland and an accordingly high number of Indonesian restaurants.
Climate
Holland’s weather is almost identical to that of the UK – i.e. expect greyness and then you can only be pleasantly surprised. Spring is one of the most popular times to visit, with tourists hoping to catch a sight of fields of tulips in full bloom.
