The second largest city in Germany, Hamburg is a bustling and interesting place with harbour at its centre point. With three rivers as well, the city is certainly not short of water and thus offers picturesque scenery.
Things to see and do:
- Fish market- It has become a tradition that every Sunday morning, just past Reeperbahn, the streets are transformed into a showy fish market. The highlight for many is simply the atmosphere, livened further by the energetic fish mongers and stall holders all looking for customers to buy their goods.
- Port of Hamburg-This attraction is one that is hard to miss seeing as it covers over one tenth of the city. It is still used for shipping and there are museums and cafes around it for those that want to learn a bit more.
- Nightlife-A visit to Hamburg is not complete without the experience of a night out in the city. From clubs to restaurants, a lively atmosphere is always available no matter what your choice.
Getting there: As with most airports in Germany, it is quite easy to find a cheap flight into Hamburg’s airport. Public transport is also readily available, making the journey into the city centre an easy one.
Location and weather: Areas in the northern part of Germany like Hamburg are renowned for their cool temperatures. The winter often sees temperatures drop to freezing and the summer months rarely experience heat above 20 degrees Celsius.
Top tip: The Reeperbahn is the notorious ‘red-light’ district of the city and is best to be avoided if you don’t wish to attract attention of the wrong sort.
