Marseille is in Provence, famous for its lovely weather, fresh produce and lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere. Things to see and do:
- Architecture and history - Marseille dates back more that twenty thousand years and although no architecture survives from this time you can see some fantastic churches and national heritage sites, and wander around the old quarter of town.
- Arc de Triomphe de la Porte d''Aix - This arch, like the larger one in Paris, was constructed to commemorate the French revolution. It marks the old entrance to the city.
- The Armenian cathedral - If you catch the metro to Rond-Point du Prado you will be able to see this Armenian cathedral which was erected at the turn of the century.
- Food - Marseille cuisine is distinct and delicious, and there are plenty of good restaurants around the city. Make sure you try the traditional bouillabaisse: a hearty fish soup.

Marseille is on the southern Mediterranean coast which means milder winds and occasional humid storms in summer but on the whole great holiday weather with an average temperature of thirty degrees Celsius in summer.
