Located 100 miles off the coast of Britain, Jersey is the most southern Island in the UK lying just 14 miles from the coastline of France. The island is a mine of adventure with the coast home to cliffs, bays, beaches and coves and with the Atlantic Ocean visible from any point on the island. Jersey is the perfect place for an active beach holiday, a quiet retreat, or a fun filled family quest.
Things to do and see:
- Jersey War Tunnels – Built between the years October 1941 and January 1944, the tunnels were once used as bomb shelters and have been turned into an exhibition ‘The Captive Island’ depicting the German occupation of Jersey.
- Family days out – Try the Jersey Zoo for face to face contact with endangered species. Alternatively, visit Maizin Maze in which hidden surprises and obstacles wait at every turn – fight to get out.
- Surfing – The waters surrounding Jersey are perfect for riding the wave with Jersey home to Britain’s oldest surfing school. Head to St Quen’s Bay, Plémont or Gréve de Lecq for the best surf what ever your age and whatever your level jersey caters for all.
- La Mare Vineyards – There is an adventure playground here for the children whilst the adults learn about the process of wine making and distilling with tours of the vineyards and the winery.
Getting there: The airport is on the edge of the island, the average cost of a taxi into the heart of Jersey from the airport is around £10. There is also a bus stop directly outside the arrivals hall which has a regular service into the city.
Location and weather: The Island is the most southerly of those in the United Kingdom and is tiny measuring only 9 miles by 5 miles. The climate of Jersey is fairly temperate with mild winters and cool hot summers.
